Short answer: No. Typical turmeric needs black pepper or fat to make it more bioavailable. While our Electric Turmeric Tea does not have pepper or fat in it, the secret to its bioavailability lies in the fermentation of turmeric. This is a process invented by one of the world’s longest-living populations - the Okinawans. Fermenting the turmeric with Okinawan rice wine and mango yeast breaks down its starches and sugars. Amino acids are released, resulting in maximized curcumin bioavailability and minimal sugar content.
Since Electric Turmeric is caffeine free, it can be enjoyed at anytime of day! We especially love it in the evenings to decompress and relax.
Since turmeric naturally contains some calories (<5 kcal), we don't consider this tea to be fasting friendly.
We suggest mixing this tea with hot (but not boiling - up to 180°F is ideal) water and allow it to settle a few minutes before enjoying. We also especially love it as a Golden Milk Latte! You can find our recipe here.
